Most of the other homes and smaller houses on Veterans Circle south of the Castle, were built for staff housing beginning in
1948. Most of the current brick lodges inside modern Preston were also constructed in the early 1950's. The entire complex of Palm Drive and Veterans Circle, east to the parking
areas adjacent to the current visiting hall, is part of a proposed future Historic Park. The northern undeveloped area outside the perimeter and below the Division of Forestry
Training Academy, may also be included in future planning for the Historic Park

Some staff still had an apartment in the Castle as late as 1953. Through the years, Ione grew up around Preston School
of Industry. There is no longer a shortage of local permanent housing. Temporary lodging is also available at two private hotels. Since World War II, State highways have improved and
commuting has been the salient mode of getting to work at Preston since the Fifties.

If these adjacent historic areas of Old Preston School of Industry are included in the plan for an Historic Park, the
signficant structures will be restored approximating their original condition. The unique botanical history of Palm Drive, will provide a tranquil setting for conferences ideal for
organizational retreats
