Ione was named first Bedbug, then Freezeout.

The Methodist Church was built in 1862

The Masonic Lodge Hall was organized in 1855.

The Commercial Hotel building was built in 1884 by James Mc Cauley. Now City Hall today.

Previous to 1876, Ione was connected with the outside world with only the poorest kinds of wagon roads.

In 1898 The wooden Union Hotel stood here. Later in the 1900's the Tonzis constructed the Golden Star Hotel, which today is now the Ione Hotel
